The arc had a good start but man, did this arc quickly deteriorate as it progressed? The Psyqauila Zombie parts were so hamfisted and boring to watch due to how mostly predictable it was. Next, we have the PSYqualia Zombie/deteltor arc and it was subpar. The execution was a mixed bag at first but it quickly transcended to the badly executed territory as the show progressed, especially in later arcs in which the lighthearted tone did not mesh well with the more serious events at all. For a show that was meant to be more darker than its original counterpart, the anime strangely suffers from a major identity crisis.įor some reason, Bushiroad kept the original dark tone of the manga while using the light-hearted tone of the original.

It’s such a shame that the following arc reckons with the grounded aspects of the series and this is where the problems begin to rear on its head. Not as grounded as the original season 1 but still grounded enough. Sure, the arc has some cheesy moments with the whole Vglove thing that Team Fool Fighter use to shock their opponents during a cardfight but other than that as well PSYqualia supernatural elements towards the end of the show but the show was for the most part grounded in reality. This is especially shown in the Fool Fighter arc aka the best arc of the show. Sure there were a couple of misplays done by characters, but they are nowhere near as cringe-inducing as the ones found in the original series and especially the G saga.

However, this doesn’t happen here as all the cardfight in the show not only had a purpose for the overall narrative but the characters actually, for the most part, knew how to play set clan in a way it is meant to.
While it necessarily isn’t a bad thing by any means, it was just that some of them in the original series were nothing but cannon fodder players using cannon fodder decks. The original series kind had a nasty habit of dragging out its story elements by having a series of episodes that only existed to promote set cards for a certain clan. The one thing I liked from the get-go was how it simply got straight to the point. Some aspects did not stand the test such the animation and cheesy comedy but I still liked a lot of aspects such as strong characterization, cardfights, themes and story minus the Psyquaila elements towards the end.ĭue to my season 1 re-watch of Cardfight Vanguard, I had high expectations going into the reboot expecting to be on par if not better than the original and the results were let’s just say mixed. I eventually revisited the first season back in 2018, Two months before the reboot announcement and I still thought it was a good show that held up nicely. Keep in mind this was 2013 for me, and I was still establishing my tastes in anime. It blew me just how fun, well-written and clever the show was. I decided to check out the show and before I knew it got addicted to it as I use to watch 13 episodes a day and I ultimately finished it in a week. When I clicked on the search bar, I saw a playlist that had 65 videos in it and the playlist was Cardfight Vanguard Season 1. I was browning on Youtube one day looking for anime to watch.
